Taking a break

Hello
I have decided to take a bit of "time out" from A Mixed Bag with Chris B on 93.7 Edge FM.  Feeling in need of a little R & R.
Thanks for listening to the show on a Tuesday night.  Not sure when it will be up and running again.
If you live in the Bega Valley, please make sure you still tune into the station.
Regards
Chris B

Punk music theme on A Mixed Bag with Chris B on 93.7 Edge FM in the Bega Valley

Tonight on A Mixed Bag with Chris B on 93.7 Edge FM, we explored the theme of Punk music.  Included in our playlist were songs from The Saints, Radio Birdman, Iggy Pop and the Stooges,  Television, MC5, Black Flag, The Clash and of course, The Sex Pistols.  I will add a more detailed playlist in the next couple of days.

I went to Melbourne over the long weekend, and caught a fabulous Radio Birdman gig down there in the big city.

The two support bands "The Volcanics" and "Magic Bones" were absolutely fantastic.  So much energy!
The Volcanics opened the show and were relentless with their driving beat and tight sound.  Magic Bones showed their versatility by constantly swapping their instruments around, and it was great to see a female guitar player in amongst it all.  I, for one, would certainly love the chance to catch these bands live in action again sometime.

And then, the band we had all been waiting for, Radio Birdman, took to the stage.  Age shall not weary those rockers!

I was very pleased to meet Denis Tek (legend).  He was extremely polite, and took the time to briefly chat with me, and also with my husband, who has been a Radio Birdman fan for a very long time.  Check out some of the photos below from the gig at Max Watts in Melbourne.

I caught a fantastic Radio Birdman gig at Max Watts in Melbourne on Saturday night.  It was absolutely outstanding, and I got to meet my guitar hero Deniz Tek (very exciting!).

Catching up with jazz

Well, I must admit I have been a bit slack about keeping this blog updated, so I thought it was time to turn over a new leaf and get back onto it.
Tonight, our theme on A Mixed Bag with Chris B, was jazz, because this weekend will be the 36th annual Merimbula Jazz Festival.

If you would like to attend, and need some information, click on the link below:-

http://www.merimbulajazz.org.au/

You will find links to the program, music videos, and a link to their Facebook page.
It will be a wonderful weekend of sound and colour with jazz music of all genres.

Have a great time in Merimbula!  Enjoy!!

Our program list featured many and varied jazz tunes including the fabulous voices of Ella Fitzgerald, Billy Holiday and Esperanza Spalding.  We heard a few tunes by some of the artists who will be playing at the 2016 Merimbula Jazz Festival - Pam Allen and the Last Mango in Paris (love the name!), Bees Nees, Pippa Wilson, Paul Dion, and someone who won the 2013 Jazz Quest, Kade Brown. A bit of Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Louis Armstrong thrown into the mix, made for one very mixed bag of jazz tonight.

Thanks for listening.

Next week will be a completely different theme - an exploration of Punk music.  Talk about from one extreme to the other!!!
If you live in the Bega Valley, you can tune into 93.7 Edge FM on Tuesday evenings between 6.00 pm and 8.00 pm to hear "A Mixed Bag with Chris B".

Happy New Year for 2016

Hello!

After a short break over Christmas, A Mixed Bag with Chris B has returned.
Tonight our theme was Stevie Wright and the Easybeats, a little bit of a tribute to a great rocker who passed away at the end of last year.

We had snippets of an interview I did with Stevie Wright a few years ago, and played some great hits from the Easybeats like Friday on my mind, Sorry, Woman (Makes you feel alright), Good Times and many more of their great songs.

Of course, we heard Evie (all three parts), and another version of Evie (Part 2) from an album called Stevie Wright sings the Easybeats.  I played my little 45 single of Hard Road, with Guitar Band on the other side, and the title track from the album Black Eyed Bruiser.

Vale Stevie Wright.

Next week, our theme on A Mixed Bag with Chris B, will be "Gods of Rock!"
