Interview with John York from The Byrds on A Mixed Bag with Chris B on 93.7 Edge FM in the Bega Valley

Tonight on A Mixed Bag with Chris B, I was challenged to find a band better than the Beatles, so I thought it would be interesting to explore the music of The Byrds.  The person who made the challenge decided that you can't compare any band to the Beatles because it's like comparing a Ferrari to a Mazda.  At the end of the day, it's really just a matter of personal opinion, and personally, I prefer The Byrds.

The original members of the Byrds could hear the influence of folk music in the early Beatles tunes, and liked how the band incorporated folk changes with a rock n roll beat.  The two bands certainly were influenced by each other, especially if you listen to the Beatles song "If I needed someone", after listening to the Byrds songs "The Bells of Rhymney" and "She don't care about time".
John York, who was the bass player in the Byrds from 1968 until 1969 very kindly granted me an interview with him.  I found John to be charming and very open about his time with the Byrds.  I've also started listening to some of John York's solo albums, and hope to present a John York theme in the future.
